"As an artist I strive to express more than a literal representation of the subject I'm painting,  but also to convey to the viewer a mood or emotional response to that subject as well. I fill my paintings with expressive brushstrokes and vibrant color, and especially enjoy intensifying the light and color contrasts. I especially enjoy highlighting the light and color contrasts of South Carolina scenery and working in plein air."

“I am continually inspired by the ever-changing light and lush landscapes of the Low Country. As a painter I am overwhelmed by the natural beauty here -- where just an ordinary day yields such extraordinary views.  I find the marshes and mosses of the South to be so mysterious and magical. I love the way the mist rolls in through the trees and the way the last sliver of daylight dances on the tops of the palmetto trees. When I paint, I try to capture that brief moment where nature is the most sublime.”
