Artist Statment Alex doesn't like placing his work in a box or a style and will tell you when asked about his approach to painting, "True art is born out of passion. I am interested less in technique and more in what is communicated, what a person feels, learns, really sees, when they encounter a work of art. With all that said I tend to like abstracting reality to communicate the spiritual significance of my observations of the tangible world based on my experiences. I paint what I see, hear, smell, touch, taste and feel. I like to take some time and detach from my subject matter and really get lost in the design and break up of shapes and space. I am intensely interested in the conversation that colors have with one another as well as communication between strokes; Relationships between color and color, color and strokes, strokes and shapes, shapes and texture, texture and strokes, shapes and color, shapes and shapes etc... Even though I get lost in all this, I always return to my subject matter in the end ."
